Peru’s networks

In September 2025, Claro, Movistar, Entel and Bitel all won 5G spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band, and committed to bring 4G to rural villages and along highways. The South America eSIM roams on a partner network in Peru, and your phone shows its name.

  • Claro

Won the 3.5 to 3.6 GHz block for 5G in the September 2025 auction.

  • Movistar

Run by Integratel Perú, the former Telefónica del Perú, which Integra Tec bought in April 2025. Won the 3.6 to 3.7 GHz block for 5G.

  • Entel

Won the 3.3 to 3.4 GHz block for 5G in the September 2025 auction.

  • Bitel

Viettel’s brand in Peru. Won the 3.4 to 3.5 GHz block for 5G in the September 2025 auction.

Where you will travel

Coverage gets spotty in the Andes and the Amazon: download maps and your lodge’s details before you go.

Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail
There is no signal for most of the Inca Trail, and at Machu Picchu it comes and goes by network. Hotels and restaurants in Aguas Calientes have Wi-Fi.
The Amazon around Puerto Maldonado
Signal depends on the lodge: Tambopata Ecolodge has Claro signal in its bar and lounge, while Collpas Tambopata Inn generally has none.
Lake Titicaca’s islands
Phone signal is limited on Amantaní: tell family before you cross the lake.

Arriving in Peru

A Peruvian SIM needs your passport, and the phone must then be registered with the network: an unregistered phone from abroad gets a text and two business days before it is blocked. Phones roaming on a foreign line, like the South America eSIM, need no paperwork.

Questions about eSIM in Peru

Which eSIM should I get for Peru?

The South America eSIM on this page: one prepaid plan for Peru, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Ecuador. Choose the days of your trip and the data you need, and the QR code appears seconds after payment.

Is the Peru eSIM a Peruvian line?

No. For Peru we sell the South America eSIM, which roams on a partner network in each country it covers, so turn on data roaming for the eSIM line. A phone roaming on a foreign line needs no paperwork in Peru.

Does it keep working when I cross a border?

Yes. The same eSIM works in Peru, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Ecuador, so there is no new plan to buy in each country.

Do I have to register my phone in Peru?

Not with the South America eSIM: phones roaming on a foreign line need no paperwork. With a Peruvian SIM, you register the phone at the network’s store, and an unregistered phone from abroad is blocked two business days after a warning text.

Do I need to turn on data roaming?

Yes, for the eSIM line only: the plan roams on a partner network in each country. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM, so your home carrier cannot charge you for roaming.

Can I keep my WhatsApp number?

Yes. Your usual SIM stays in your phone with your number for calls and texts, and WhatsApp keeps the same number while the eSIM carries your data.

What if the eSIM does not work?

You get a full refund if it does not work and we cannot fix it, or if it is not delivered. Write to contact@esimamericas.com with your order link.

How your eSIM works on this trip, and where to find help.

Get online in Peru with the South America eSIM: one prepaid plan for Peru, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Ecuador. Buy it on this page, scan the QR code at home and switch it on when you land in Lima or Cusco. Cross a border and it keeps working.

In each country on the list it roams on a partner network, and your phone shows that network's name, so turn on data roaming for the eSIM line when you land. The mobile networks in Peru are Claro, Movistar, Entel and Bitel. A Peru SIM card from the airport means a queue after landing. You install this eSIM at home, before you fly.

You pay by card, and the QR code appears on your order page seconds after payment: bookmark that page or save the QR code before you leave it. Then you add the eSIM to your phone. When you land, choose the eSIM line for mobile data and keep your own number for calls and texts. Full refund if it does not work. The steps for iPhone and Android are in the help centre.
