The networks of the United States
Three national carriers run the country's mobile networks. The USA eSIM runs on AT&T, as a line in the United States.
AT&T Our plan
Switched on its mid-band 5G, which it calls 5G+, through 2022 and 2023, after buying C-band and 3.45 GHz spectrum.
Plans from US$6.49
Merged with Sprint in April 2020 and built most of its 5G on mid-band 2.5 GHz spectrum.
First United States carrier to switch on 5G, in parts of Chicago and Minneapolis in April 2019.
Where you will travel
The big cities run on dense 5G; inside the national parks and between towns in the West, signal thins out, so save your maps before the trailhead.
- New York, Los Angeles and Miami
- Dense 5G on all three networks; tunnels and deep underground stretches can drop the signal.
- National parks
- Coverage thins out inside the big western parks such as Yosemite and Grand Canyon: download trail maps and tickets before the gate.
- Alaska and the mountain West
- Long drives between towns can pass through no coverage at all: save maps offline before you set off.
Arriving in the United States
The United States keeps no register of phone numbers, so there is no counter queue for paperwork. With the eSIM installed at home you walk out of arrivals with your phone already online.
- JFKNew YorkFree Wi-Fi in the terminals: if you did not install the eSIM at home, do it while you wait for your bags.Read the guide
- LAXLos AngelesFree Wi-Fi across the terminals; immigration at the international terminal can take a while, so a layover is a good moment to install.
- MIAMiamiFree Wi-Fi in the terminals, and the eSIM is ready before you reach the taxi line.

Questions about eSIM in the USA
What is the best eSIM for the United States?
The USA eSIM on this page, running on AT&T: choose the days of your trip and the data you need, and the QR code appears seconds after payment.
Does it work in Mexico and Canada too?
The USA eSIM is the local plan, and it stays in the United States. To cross into Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica or Panama, choose the North America eSIM on this page: the same QR code covers all five countries.
Do I have to register anything to use a phone in the United States?
No. The United States keeps no register of phone numbers, so the eSIM needs no paperwork: install it and it is ready, with no counter and no passport.
Do I need to turn on data roaming?
Not for the USA eSIM: it runs on AT&T as a line in the country. The North America eSIM roams, so for that one switch on data roaming for the eSIM line before you cross a border.
Can I keep my WhatsApp number?
Yes. Your usual SIM stays in your phone with your number for calls and texts, and WhatsApp keeps the same number while the eSIM carries your data.
What if the eSIM does not work?
You get a full refund if it does not work and we cannot fix it, or if it is not delivered. Write to contact@esimamericas.com with your order link.
Good to know
How your eSIM works on this trip, and where to find help.
Get online in the United States with the USA eSIM: buy it on this page, install it on Wi-Fi before you fly and switch it on when you land in New York, Los Angeles or Miami.
The eSIM runs on AT&T, an American network, so your phone connects as a line in the United States, not as a visitor. A United States SIM card from the airport means another queue after a long flight; the country keeps no register of phone numbers, so there is no paperwork to wait for either way. With the eSIM installed at home, you skip the counter.
Flying on to Mexico or Canada? The North America eSIM on this page is one plan for the United States, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica and Panama: choose it when your trip crosses a border.
Heading south first? The Mexico eSIM and the Costa Rica eSIM pages name their networks before you pay.
