Claro at a glance
Second in Brazil
ANATEL's competition report for the second quarter of 2026 puts Brazil's mobile market at 276.4 million accesses and Claro second, with 33.2% of them, between Vivo's 37.9% and TIM's 22.4%. Claro added 916 thousand accesses in the quarter.
Coverage from ANATEL's data
Claro's coverage page says that, on ANATEL's data, its network reaches almost 4,800 Brazilian cities, which is more than 98% of the population.
A map for each technology
ANATEL's quality rules require every operator to publish a coverage map for each technology it offers. The regulator notes that the maps are predictions of signal, so reception indoors is not guaranteed.

Mobile networks in Brazil
The mobile networks travellers meet in Brazil are Vivo, Claro and TIM.
Check your phone first
A plan on Claro needs a phone that takes an eSIM and is unlocked, not tied to the carrier that sold it. The phone check tells you whether yours does.
Good to know
How your eSIM works on this trip, and where to find help.
Claro is one of Brazil’s three national carriers, and the network the eSIM Americas Brazil eSIM uses.
Claro’s place in the market
Brazil’s telecoms regulator, ANATEL, counted 276.4 million mobile accesses in the second quarter of 2026, 3.7% more than a year earlier. Its competition report places Claro second with 33.2% of the market, between Vivo’s 37.9% and TIM’s 22.4%, and records 916 thousand new Claro accesses in the quarter. Lines on 5G reached 23.9% of the total, or 66.1 million.
Where Claro has 5G
Brasília was the first city in Brazil where 5G went live, on 6 July 2022, and Claro was one of the three carriers that switched it on there. Three years later the country counted 1,025 municipalities with 5G and 47.2 million customers, more than 70% of the population. 5G needs a phone that supports it, and a plan card here names 5G only where the store confirms it for the plan.
Check the signal before you go
ANATEL requires every operator to publish a coverage map for each technology it sells. The regulator points out that the maps are built from prediction models, so the signal indoors is not guaranteed. Claro’s own map, drawn from ANATEL’s data, covers almost 4,800 cities and shows its 5G, 4G, 3G and 2G layers by place.
Before you land
Load the eSIM on Wi-Fi at home, then turn its line on after you land in São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro.
