What the North America plan covers
The North America roaming plan is built for trips that cross borders inside the region: the United States, Canada and Mexico on one eSIM, one installation, one data balance. You activate it once and it keeps working as you move between countries — no queuing for a local SIM in an airport arrivals hall, no swapping plastic cards on a bus.
That matters most on the classic routes travellers actually book: a flight into Los Angeles or Miami with a connection into Mexico City, a Toronto–New York–Cancún triangle, or a road trip that slips over the border and back. One plan, three countries.
Who it suits — and who it doesn't
| Your trip | Best fit |
|---|---|
| USA, Canada and Mexico in one itinerary | North America plan |
| Two or more South American countries | South America multi-country plan |
| One country only (Colombia, Costa Rica or Brazil) | That country's plan in its own store |
| Mexico only | North America plan — there is no separate Mexico-only eSIM |
| A long stay in a single country | Country plan, sized to your trip length |
If your whole trip sits inside Colombia, Costa Rica or Brazil, buy that country's eSIM directly: it is the cleaner match and keeps your data tied to where you are. The North America plan earns its place when the itinerary genuinely crosses the northern continent.
Mexico: how to buy it correctly
Mexico is covered through the North America roaming plan. There is no Mexico-only eSIM on sale, so if Mexico is your destination, the North America plan is the route to take — and it brings the USA and Canada with it at no extra decision. Do not go looking for a standalone Mexico product; it does not exist here.
For travel further south, the picture changes. Colombia, Costa Rica and Brazil each have their own live listings, and the South America multi-country plan handles trips that cross that continent. Our framing is simple: Latin America from Cancún to Patagonia, with the right plan for each leg.
Before you buy: two checks
1. Is your phone eSIM-ready? Most recent flagship phones are, but not every model sold in every market. Check your exact model on our phone compatibility page before you pay — it takes a minute and saves a wasted purchase.
2. Is your phone carrier-unlocked? An eSIM from us needs an unlocked device. If you bought your phone on a long contract, confirm the lock status with your network first.
Installing and activating
Installation is done before you travel, over Wi-Fi, at home. You scan a QR code or add the eSIM manually, label it clearly ("North America"), and leave it switched off until you land. Then you turn it on and set it as your data line.
Two habits make the first hour abroad painless:
- Keep your home SIM active for calls and texts, but set mobile data to the travel eSIM.
- Turn on data roaming for the travel eSIM — that is how roaming plans connect. It will not cost extra beyond your plan.
Step-by-step instructions for both iPhone and Android live in our help centre, alongside activation and troubleshooting guides.
Using it across three countries
Border crossings are where a regional plan proves itself. You do not need to do anything at the frontier: the eSIM reconnects to a local network on the other side. If your phone clings to the old network for a few minutes, toggling airplane mode on and off forces a fresh connection.
A few practical notes:
- Coverage follows local networks. Cities, highways and tourist regions are well served; remote wilderness is not, anywhere in the world.
- Data-only means data-only. Calls and texts run through your home SIM or an app like WhatsApp.
- Watch your balance. Streaming maps and video eats data fastest; download offline maps before a long drive.
Common questions before you fly
Travellers usually want to know whether one plan really covers all three countries (it does), whether they can keep their number (yes, for calls and texts via their home SIM), and what happens if they run out of data mid-trip (top-ups and support are handled through your account and our help pages).
If you already have an order and need to check its status, use order lookup. If something is not working after landing, the troubleshooting guide walks through the usual fixes in order — network selection, APN, roaming toggle — before you contact support.
Choosing with confidence
One eSIM for the USA, Canada and Mexico removes the most annoying part of a multi-country trip: the scramble for connectivity at each new border. Buy it before you fly, install it over Wi-Fi, and land connected. If your plans change and you end up staying longer in one country, your account and help centre are there for top-ups and adjustments.
For trips that stay in Latin America, browse the Colombia, Costa Rica and Brazil stores, or the South America multi-country plan for journeys that cross the continent. From Cancún to Patagonia, there is a plan sized to the trip you are actually taking.
